Founded in 2002 by a group of members from Ottawa’s gay men’s communities, MAX (formerly known as Ottawa Gay Men's Wellness Initiative (OGMWI)) envisions a community of self-affirming gay men caring for themselves, caring for each other, and enjoying complete health equity. Our organization is one of the founding partners of GayZone, a weekly global-health space in downtown Ottawa offering a free HIV/STI walk-in clinic, yoga and other social and cultural activities for queer men.
We have recently been funded to address the well-being needs of gay, bi, and queer men, whether cis or trans, in the region. We focus particularly on mental health issues and social isolation, building resiliency, and creating a network of services able to support and promote gay men's wellness.
