The Ottawa Tool Library (OTL) is a non-profit tool lending library in Ottawa located at Makerspace North in City Centre off of Scott St.. We offer four categories of tools: hand tools, power tools, garden tools, and kitchen tools. We are a volunteer-driven organization and are always looking for community-minded individuals to share their talents, time, and energy to the cause.

As a non-profit social enterprise, the Ottawa Tool Library (OTL) relies on contributions from a range of talented individuals to fulfill its mission of providing access to tools and skills throughout the local community. Volunteers are essential to permit the OTL to lend tools to its membership at minimal cost, permitting access to a broad range of tools. Our mission is to engage and empower the community to participate in sharing resources by providing access to tools and skills for everybody.

Volunteer Opportunities

Organization: Ottawa Tool Library
The OTL volunteer coordinator is the one who jumps to keyboard when someone contacts OTL about volunteering. It’s mostly an email based job; the coordinator personalizes template responses to welcome prospective volunteers, communicates with other coordinators (e.g. social media coordinator), consults the shift calendar, and schedules trainees using our online booking system. The role requires someone who can keep on top of the email traffic, compose sometimes difficult notes with a touch of lightheartedness, and pay attention to detail at reasonable speed. The role requires about 1-2 hours per week, excellent organizational skills, great customer service, occasional diplomacy, and initiative. Work from wherever you have internet.

Our social media team is responsible for content creation, managing engagements and promoting the OTL and our activities. If you want to excite and engage our audience (members, supporters and others) and have experience with Facebook, Instagram and/or Twitter, we'd love to have you join our team!
