Volunteer Opportunities

Organization: Mothercraft Ottawa
The Birth Companion Program matches trained volunteers with at risk and marginalized women and families in Ottawa, by providing free prenatal, labour/delivery, postpartum and parenting support. Birth Companions are mature women over the age of 18, who are trained to provide emotional and physical support, referrals to community supports and companionship during this pivotal time in their lives. Once an application has been submitted, an interview has been conducted and the applicant has been accepted into the program, volunteers participate in an 8 week, 20 hour training to become a Birth Companion. After training, they will be matched with an expectant woman/family in need of support. We are always seeking Birth Companions who speak a variety of languages, specifically English, French, Arabic and Chinese, alternate languages are considered an asset.
