Abbeyfield Houses Society of Ottawa is a not-for-profit seniors’ residence affiliated with Abbeyfield International, with 1,100 houses in 25 countries worldwide.
The key role of the Board of Directors is to provide governance and oversight to the Abbeyfield Houses Society of Ottawa. A member at large may be asked to participate in tasks such as the following:
• Develop and implement policies and procedures that will allow the organization to carry out its work;
• Maintain fiscal responsibility, including the raising and managing of income, and producing financial statements;
• Ensure the property is well maintained;
• Ensure an appropriate level of paid staff and volunteers are in place to provide services to the residents;
• Take appropriate measures to ensure the wellbeing of the residents and staff; following all protocols as issued by local, provincial, and federal Health Departments.
• Ensure continuous succession planning for ongoing renewal of the Board;
• Ensure completion of an Annual Report detailing accomplishments and challenges;
• Ensure completion of the Annual Financial Report;
• Plan and execute an Annual General Meeting;
• Attend and participate in Monthly Board Meetings;
• Board members may take on a specific portfolio within the Board Structure and execute tasks within that portfolio.
Knowledge of and/or experience working with not-for-profit organizations is an asset.

20 hours per month
