Volunteer Opportunities

Date: Sunday, May 6

Time: Plan to arrive by 9:15 a.m. and check-in at the Volunteer Registration Area – follow the signs. Shift is: 9:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.

Duties: Working in the main staging area you will serve food and drinks as directed by the food vendor.

As a volunteer, you’ll receive:
- Breakfast snack
- A BBQ lunch
- A short-sleeved CN Cycle for CHEO volunteer t-shirt
- Entry into the volunteer prize draw

Time: Plan to arrive by 6:30 a.m. and check-in at the Volunteer Registration Area – follow the signs. Shift is 6:45 a.m. – 1 p.m.

DUTIES: Working on the event grounds, you will register and park bicycles and back packs in a supervised parking compound. You will tag all bikes and bags, store them neatly and act as security.

Time: Plan to arrive by 5:30 a.m. and check-in at the Volunteer Registration Area – follow the signs. Your shift is 5:30 a.m. – noon.

Duties: Assemble and place barricades and pylons along the route. Responsible for traffic control by directing cyclists, in line skaters and walkers, inform motorists of road closures, and take down pylons and barricades following the event. Route Assistants work in pairs. You will be given a safety vest and must return it before leaving.

Prior to Departure: Please sign in at the Volunteer Registration Area. Line up at your bus number in the hall, outside of the cafeteria and be ready to depart at the determined load time/departure time. Your bus supervisor will provide your zone number and details on procedures as you are transported to your assigned barricade. If you have a cell phone, please bring it to facilitate easy communication with your Route Captain. DO NOT LEAVE YOUR POST UNLESS THE ROUTE CAPTAIN GIVES PERMISSION.

As a volunteer, you’ll receive:

- A snack bag to take with you and BBQ lunch when you return
- A short-sleeved CN Cycle for CHEO volunteer t-shirt

Duties: Your duties will be to supervise and maintain order in the inflatable play area for young children. Being patient and good with children will be your most important role!

Duties: Working with a partner along Vimy Place at the front of the Canadian War Museum you will ensure that only vehicles on the Parking List are allowed to park at the covered meter locations. This position requires tact and good customer service skills!

Time: Arrive at 7 a.m. and check-in at the Volunteer Registration Area – follow the signs. Pick up golf cart keys and report to the event manager.

Duties: Working on site, under the direction of the volunteer supervisor you will be responsible for cleaning up the site during and after the event. Duties include picking up litter, emptying garbage cans and managing recyclables, and bringing items back to the Atelier. Shift is 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Time: Plan to arrive by 6:30 a.m. and check-in at the Volunteer Registration Area – follow the signs. Shift is 7 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Duties: Travel the route using the vehicle provided to you. Give support to the route assistants, and liaise with the event manager, police, and medical officials. Ensure barricades are properly positioned before the start of the event and placed safely off the road as per event officials at the end of the event. Ensure route assistants pick up all garbage along their stretch of route before releasing them from their assigned post. Ensure all volunteers from your section have been picked up by the bus and returned to the Canadian War Museum. Arrange for pickup of any volunteers who may have been left behind.

*You are required to attend a mandatory training session on Friday, May 4 at the Canadian War Museum. Dinner will be provided. Time to be determined.

Duties: You will be given a route map and a listing of volunteers for each stop. The safety vest and radio you will be given must be returned at the end of the event.

Before Departure: Please locate the sign with your bus number in the hall outside the cafeteria inside the Canadian War Museum. Gather the required number of route assistants for your bus, as indicated on the back of the bus sign. Very important to ensure that all the people on your bus are on time as per your scheduled load/departure time.

On Bus: Confirm that the bus driver is reachable.

Ensure volunteers get off at the proper location (rest stop volunteers and route assistants). Give each volunteer their zone number and clearly communicate to them that they must return to the drop off location when it is time for pickup. You will be getting off at the last stop on your section of the route and you will become a route assistant at that location.

You are responsible for ensuring all volunteers are picked up after the event.
