Amethyst Women's Addiction Centre offers an outpatient treatment program in English and French for women 18 years and older who are experiencing problems with substance use or gambling. Our approach is holistic and women centered. We help women identify and understand the issues in their lives that may be leading to their addictive behaviours. The Treatment Program is 2 years long and consists of: Assessment, Pre-treatment, an Intensive Program and Follow-up Support. We also have an Early Childhood Development Addictions Program for pregnant women with addictions. Our Health Promotion Program offers workshops for women addressing issues such as self-esteem, stress and change. We also provide a Sexual Abuse Support Program for our clients in recovery.
Board Meetings are held on the third Monday of each month beginning at 5:30 pm. There are no Board Meetings in July and August. Amethyst is a modified collective and a 'working board'. The governance model is such that Board and Staff members work together on various committees. Those interested in submitting their applications should provide a covering letter noting why they are interested in volunteering on Amethyst's Board of Directors, along with their CV/Resume.
In 2019 Amethyst Women's Addiction Centre celebrated its 40th anniversary. Amethyst provides services for women in the Ottawa region who are recovering from substance use and/or problem gambling. More information on the organization is available at: www.amethyst-ottawa.org
